County/Principality of Pyrmont (in personal union with Waldeck)

Principality of Waldeck and Pyrmont

Pyrmont was acquired by the Count of Waldeck from the Count of Gleichen-Tonna in 1625, but was not administratively absorbed into that county. Pyrmont shared administrative responsibilities over part of the county with the Bishop of Paderborn (quasi-Vogtei Lügde) and had sole responsibility over the rest (quasi-Vogtei Pyrmont). In 1668, Pyrmont relinquished all claim to Lügde and Paderborn relinquished all claim to the rest of Pyrmont. Pyrmont was not forced into a Napoleonic client state and in 1809 was elevated to a principality (Waldeck having been a principality since 1712). In 1849, the two principalities merged into a single country.
