Amt Scharnebeck
Amt Bütlingen
An abbey was built in Scharnebeck during the mid-13th century and it exercised secular authority over some surrounding villages. The abbacy was fully secularized under the sovereignty of the Prince of Lüneburg in 1529 and was converted into an Amt. It was included in the spinoff Principality of Lüneburg-Dannenberg between 1569 and 1671, despite having no common border with any other included Amt. When the spinoff was dissolved, Amt Scharnebeck reverted to the core principality.
Amt Bütlingen was originally part of Vogtei Bardowieck in Amt Winsen an der Luhe. One of its villages (Lüdershausen) was clearly independent of Bardowieck by 1526 and may have been its own Amt for a time. Without firm dates, however, I include it with Bütlingen throughout the period covered by the data base. After 1794, it was administered from Scharnebeck, but retained its identity.
