Principality of Lüneburg-Gifhorn
The nonsovereign Principality of Lüneburg-Gifhorn was spun off from Lüneburg-Celle in 1539 at the request of the ruling prince’s brother. It consisted of Stadt and Amt Gifhorn and Amt Fallersleben. Amt Isenhagen, previously an independent monestary, joined in 1540. Upon the brother’s death in 1549, the Principality reverted to Lüneburg-Celle.
