Amt Deutz

Deutz dates to a Roman castle built on the east bank of the Rhein, directly opposite the core of Cologne, in the 4th century. An abbey was built on the site in the 11th century under the jurisdiction of the Archbishop of Cologne. The surrounding territory was disputed between the Archbishopric, the Imperial City of Cologne, and the Duchy of Berg, but I assign it to the Electorate of Cologne throughout the period covered by the database. The Amt was not subdivided.
