Amt Nürburg

Nürburg castle was built in the 12th century and fell under the jurisdiction of the Electorate of Cologne in 1209, where it became the seat of an Amt. The Amt remained part of the Electorate throughout the period covered by the database.

 

The Amt consisted of five subdivisions called “Schuldheissenämter” (literally, “debt collection offices”, although one of them had a “Vogtei”, or bailiwick, attached to it, which I do not count as a separate subdivision). An adjacent Unterherrschaft was not part of the Amt, but was grouped with it for statistical purposes. The Unterherrschaft was administered by the Lordship of Burgbrohl and I give it the simplified country name of Cologne-Burgbrohl.
